ONEDOTZERO
- The correct title of this article is onedotzero. The initial letter is capitalized because of technical restrictions.
onedotzero is an annual digital film festival with tour based in London, England. Started in 1996 at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), London, it implemented a pioneering program of experimental filmmaking and moving image that used the emerging desktop digital filmmaking tools to their fullest extent.
The festival quickly expanded programming to include emerging visual styles from graphic design, music video, video games, motion graphics, and Japan. Pioneering VJ and new media performances have been a feature of the festival. In early editions onedotzero had a clearly didactic programming remit, leading the commissioning and production of original digital short films in particular styles and directions. Later editions have seen it capitalize on its position as a nexus for moving image forms that have entered the mainstream. Other events such as the NFT Antenna music video showcase, and Optronica VJ festival have also emerged within the UK Capital.
Besides an extensive international tour onedotzero has been responsible for numerous digital film productions and commissions, including short films and TV series for channel 4: onedottv in 6 parts in 1999 and onedottv global in 12 parts 2001.
In Screen International’s 25th anniversary issue onedotzero directors Matt Hanson and Shane Walter were named as one of the top ten visionaries of the UK film industry alongside Ridley Scott, Chris Nolan and Lynne Ramsey.
History

New media and theatre producer Shane Walter joined Hanson as joint festival director for the second annual event. Hanson and Walter established the onedotzero company later in 1997. Shane Walter became solo director at the beginning of 2002 for onedotzero6 until the present.
