PLATE
Plate generally refers to a thin, flat sheet, commonly of metal.
Plate may also refer to:
- Plate electrode, a type of electrode that formed part of a vacuum tube
- Tectonic plate, in geology, a piece of the Earth's crust featured in plate tectonics, a theory of geology developed to explain the phenomenon of continental drift
- Plate (dishware), an item of dishware
- Plate is a mainly British, mainly antiquated term for sterling silver flatware and holloware
- In British heraldry, a plate is a roundel argent
- Home plate, a piece of equipment in baseball
- Vehicle registration plate, a small metal or plastic plate attached to a motor vehicle for official identification purposes
- Plate such as steel plate is sheet metal in a thicker form, such as is used for boilermaking or shipbuilding. The footplate of a steam locomotive was made of such plate. Its thickness starts at about 6 mm or 1/4 inch (See also Structural steel)
